THE GAINESVILLE SUN-  After wavering on his verbal commitment to Florida all summer, offensive tackle Roderick Johnson is officially out of its 2013 class.

On Sunday night, Johnson confirmed to The Sun via text message that he spoke with UF coach Will Muschamp earlier in the evening and decided it was best to part ways.

The 6-foot-6, 315-pounder from Delray Beach American Heritage committed to Florida on March 25 but had been a soft verbal since late June because of his academic concerns and interest in other schools. When wide receivers coach Aubrey Hill, his primary recruiter, resigned from UF on Aug. 3, Johnson re-opened his recruitment and it was only a matter of time before his pledge fell through. Auburn, Florida State, South Carolina and West Virginia are the new leaders for Johnson, although he said the Gators will still be considered.

Florida now has 20 members in its 2013 class, which is ranked No. 2 in the nation by ESPN. Verbal commitments are not binding until prospects sign their national letters of intent on Feb. 6.
