THE BIRMINGHAM NEWS- Alabama cornerback Travell Dixon, a promising junior-college transfer who was in the mix to see significant playing time this season, has left the program, according to multiple reports.

Attempts by the al.com Tuscaloosa bureau to reach Dixon were unsuccessful. Alabama has yet to confirm Dixon's departure.

TideSports.com's Andrew Bone was first to report the news. According toBone's report, Dixon left because of "family and personal reasons."

Dixon, a 6-foot-1, 191-pound, four-star recruit from Eastern Arizona Junior College, appeared to be falling behind fellow juco transfer Deion Belue and junior John Fulton in the battle to start opposite Dee Milliner in the Alabama secondary.

Dixon committed to Alabama in December, selecting the Crimson Tide over Florida State, Mississippi State and a variety of others. In his one appearance in front of Alabama fans, Dixon registered six tackles at April's A-Day game.

After a spring scrimmage, coach Nick Saban said he expected Dixon to contribute in the two-deep.

"Travell Dixon is moving around a lot now, star, corner and a lot of stuff," Saban said in March. "He’'s got a little overload right now, but he'’s very conscientious."

Dixon intercepted four passes during his sophomore year at junior college.

A Miami native, Dixon was not at this morning's practice.

At Thursday's press conference, Saban said Alabama's secondary, which saw three of its starters selected in April's NFL Draft, had "a ways to go."

"There are guys that have some good promise and some guys that have played really good football for us here," Saban said. "They're trying to provide some of the leadership we need to develop some other players. To me, that's a challenge for us right now to see how rapidly we can get some of those young guys to develop with the consistency.

"It's a work in progress. How quickly those guys develop is going to be really important to how successful we are on defense."
