AJC- the cowbells, one of the SEC’s more controversial traditions, got a reprieve Friday when the conference presidents approved a one-year extension of an exception for MSU to the rule that bans artificial noisemakers in conference stadiums.
The Other Bulldogs can keep their cowbells, but the league will come down harder on them if they don’t confine their ringing to between plays. Last year, the school was fined $5,000 for one infraction and an additional $25,000 when the MSU fans did it again. This year, if they clang during play it’s going to cost Mississippi State $50,000 per infraction

PRESS-REGISTER--It's an odd-numbered year, which means Auburn will face a difficult road schedule in the SEC.
The Tigers will try to defend their national championship and extend their 15-game winning streak against a schedule that includes games at South Carolina, Arkansas, LSU and Georgia. Auburn also visits Atlantic Coast Conference contender Clemson.
But perhaps to ease the pressure, the Tigers are the only SEC team that does not play a non-conference opponent with a winning record last season.
Our sources indicate that the University Presidents voted 12-0 to reduce available scholarships to 25.
Yesterday, the coaches voted 12-0 to keep the available scholarships at 25.
Ruling takes effect August 1.
SEC also voted to allow transfers only if at least 2 years remaining.
As more information becomes available, we will update.
