Saban Happy with First Teams Performance

GADSDEN TIMES-  Nick Saban liked what he saw from first-team players Saturday as the University of Alabama held its second and final scrimmage of fall camp.

But what he saw from second-team players could use some work. On the same day the Crimson Tide was named the nation’s No.2 team in the Associated Press preseason poll, Saban made it clear that a contending football team requires more than gifted starters. It requires depth, as well.

“We probably need more players to be able to compete at a higher level. I was not really pleased with the way some of our twos competed,” Saban said.

“You’ve got a few guys that aren’t playing all the time, and you’re trying to get some young guys some opportunities to play so you can get a look at them, and they don’t respond maybe the way you’d like for them to, which is a sign of maturity.”
